What is the Employment Service?
The Student Employment Service is designed for students of the University of New England. Operated by Services UNE Ltd. - it has one aim – to assist students who are registered with Services UNE Employment to find the casual, part time or seasonal work they may need to assist them financially in completing their studies.
What are the benefits of registering with the Employment Service?
By registering you increase your chances of employment by being the first to be notified of new vacancies. You receive email notification of jobs the moment they are notified to Services UNE. If you check your email frequently, you will find many opportunities open before they are filled. Job vacancies are also be posted on our web site and notice boards.
What hours are involved?
Usually student employment averages less than seventeen hours per week. On occasions you may be required to work full time for short periods. Most employers are sensitive to student needs and will allow for students to attend lectures as required. You need to confirm this at your initial interview.
What type of work is available?
The type of work available by registering with Services UNE is mostly of a short term nature. It is normally casual, part time work. The nature of the work varies from clerical/computing to housekeeping, gardening and babysitting. From time to time what is termed “seasonal” work becomes available away from Armidale and consists of fruit picking or cotton chipping.
What will I be paid?
All terms and conditions of employment including rate of pay should be negotiated in advance between the student and the employer. The rate of payment and conditions will vary depending on the complexity of the position. Services UNE does not recommend a payment rate.
